Love anime? Then, here are mangas to start your 2022!

Watching anime is pretty fun, but let’s face it fans, reading the manga is much better! In mangas, there might be scenes or even tiny details that have been forgotten or were simply omitted from the animation. The feelings, remorse, pain, and the comedy is multiplied by a lot when you read the manga version. One thing about manga is that if you can’t just wait for the new season of the said anime to arrive, we could just read them straight-away and not prolong the agony of waiting. Who hates waiting? Obviously not us, anime fans, that’s a fact! LOL.

So, here at Booktilt, we have compiled our picks from the most popular manga series of 2021, and find out if your favorite manga has made it! Our list ranges from different genres: shounen, shoujo, or even horror manga!

  1. Jujutsu Kaisen by Akutami Gege

Starting off our list is Akutami Gege’s creation of a world full of cursed spirits and sorcerers, Jujutsu Kaisen. It is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Gege Akutami, serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump since March 2018, and continues up to now with 17 volumes. It follows a story of a world where everyone emits an energy called “Cursed Energy” and those who can’t control it become a cursed spirit, where the main protagonist, Itadori Yuji, comes in contact with a special-grade sealed artifact, Ryomen Sukuna. Here comes people trained to dissipate these spirits called “Jujutsu Sorcerers” and a school established to train the youngsters with potential in order to become these powerful sorcerers.

  1. Demon Slayer by Koyoharu Gotouge

With it’s Infinity Train movie and just recently, Demon Slayer’s Season 2 coming on TV screens and online streaming sites, it’s popularity has risen once again despite the whole manga ending just this May. Kimetsu no Yaiba, or popularly known as Demon Slayer was written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotouge and  was serialized in Shueisha’s shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump from February 15, 2016, to May 18, 2020. It follows the story of a young Kamado Tanjiro, who strives to become a demon slayer after his family was slaughtered and his younger sister Nezuko got turned into a demon. While the manga ended earlier than fans have expected, it was well-wrapped that left fans in awe and maybe some in tears.

  1. My Hero Academia (BNHA) by Horikoshi Kohei

I am a hero too! 

Everyone has dreamt at one time that they want to become a superhero, right? We’ve always loved the ideas of heroes, saving the world from all threats of evil. Now, here comes UA, a prestigious hero academy in Japan that trains individuals in order to become the very heroes that will protect us someday! Enter Midoriya Izuku, a teenager who would like to follow the footsteps of the mightiest hero, All Might, and wants to enroll in the Top hero’s alma mater: only that he doesn’t have any power! 

Follow Midoriya Izuku’s story and uncover the other heroes’ and heroes-in-training’s lives as they race towards the world of protecting mankind by reading the manga here!  

  1. Spy x Family by Tatsuya Endo

For all fans of spy genre enthusiasts out there, this one’s for you! With an upcoming anime adaptation this 2022, Spy x Family (read as Spy Family) has been rising in popularity with it’s unique concept (and visuals). Spy x Family, a manga written and illustrated by Tatsuya Endo, talks about three people: Lloyd Forger, a top-class spy; Yor Briar, a contract killer and Anya, a young girl with psychic abilities, where the three of them will become a family (a fake one), for the sake of world peace. Even with it’s serious name and plot, the manga will leave you laughing with hilarious scenes, like Anya with her iconic “Heh” facial expression which has been a meme reference by most anime fans on social media platforms like Twitter.

  1. One Punch Man by ONE

Dreaming of becoming Superman, the Man of Steel? Well, this one might be even stronger than him! In One Punch Man, you will meet Saitama, the superhero who can defeat any opponent, be it strong or weak, with just one, single punch. Tired of single punching everyone on his way, he got bored of his superhero life and that’s when he met a reckless cyborg, Genos, and from there, they signed up at the Hero Association to become licensed heroes, and met a lot of nemesis who faced Saitama’s punch. Not only that, they gained allies along the way and with the action that’s going on in the current chapters— and that’s gonna be a secret!

  1. Kaguya-sama: Love is War! by Aka Akasaka

 “The first one who falls in love, loses.”

Tired of that cliche on romance animes? Well, Kaguya-sama: Love is War! will cater you this refreshing trope of two intelligent and proud students, Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyuki Shirogane. Both are just too proud to confess their love, that they end up having mind games with each other, and a lot of misunderstandings! Everytime the two are alone together, they put up schemes to make the other profess their love for one another.
